Writers Against Racism

I was asked a few questions for the Writers Against Racism blog by Amy Bowllan.
The other answers are posted on the School Library Journal website - http://www.schoollibraryjournal.com/

Here's a little taste:

Writers Against Racism: Ebony Joy Wilkins
Blog on School Library Journal:
In what way can literature be used to combat the effects of racism and promote tolerance?

Literature can educate those who don’t understand, inspire those who care, and motivate those who are aware. After experiencing racism as a young reader I began to understand the power of spoken and written words to shape, change, and impact lives. The right words can encourage the discipline of early reading and writing in young learners and can also foster self esteem. Literature that deals with racial issues is important and can serve as a window and a mirror for young children to shape the way readers view the world and themselves.

National Novel Writing Month

I am an official participant in National Novel Writing Month! I am committing to 1500 new words every day on my WIP! This time I'm going to make it, especially now that someone is keeping track of my writing progress.

I've tried NaNoWriMo once before and didn't quite get as much done as I wanted to, but at least I tried, right? One of my twitter buddies posted something this morning calling NaNoWriMo an 'uncreative process,' which I totally disagree with. If anything NaNoWriMo puts me in a writing state of mind ...ooh that sounds like a catchy song title....and I just love writing the acronym -NaNoWriMo - so there!

Wish me luck on my 1500 daily word goal and good luck to all you NaNoWriMo writers out there! Drop me a line to let me know how your writing is coming along! Here is the address if you're interested in joining -http://www.nanowrimo.org.
