Finding your writing groove in the midst of a big move

So, I moved across the country recently and haven’t been keeping up with my regular writing schedule. I’ve been thinking about too many other things besides my work-in-progress novel –will the movers break my furniture, how much is this move going to cost, did I remember to close all of my accounts at the old place, etc.

However, I did write a few lines here or there during the long drive out to the Midwest and I also outlined the heck out of a new story idea. Any huge progress has slowed because of all of the new distractions, like the busy street noise as my eight a.m. wake up call on Saturday morning in the new apartment. Somehow, I have to stay motivated and come up with a new schedule and a new routine, in light of this new environment.

How do I keep my writing groove in the midst of a big move? No idea! But here are a few things that I’ve thought about doing and will try until I become more settled.

Ways to keep the ideas flowing and the fingers glued to the keyboard:
1. Brainstorm plot ideas
2. Outline a new story idea
3. Focus on editing something old
4. Write a new blog entry
5. Explore the new neighborhood writing hotspots

The best part about a move is the unrest is temporary. Eventually, I’ll settle in to a new city, a new flow, and new progress. Until then, I will be an outlining fool and wandering artist looking for ways to get my writing groove back intact. If you have any suggestions for this displaced writer, email me and share your thoughts.

I’m leaving on a jet plane. Don’t know if I’ll be back again…

My new typewriter

A friend of mine has been holding this beauty for me for quite some time. Isn't she lovely? It's a 1960 Futura in great condition! (Thanks Claire)

Why I write

I've been asked many times why I write and why I love writing so much. There's no better way to answer that question than to show you. This picture says it all beautifully.
(Thank you Azziz family for sharing this)
